Taking a cruise on an aircraft carrier like the USS Kitty Hawk is one of the greatest things that you can ever do in your life. Through these Kitty Hawk pages and Website, I have met many of my old friends and have made many new friends. I have heard stories from people who served in all of the Armed Forces of the United States and even other countries. Thanks for a chance to see your excellent pictures. May I make a comment or two that may be useful? VF-114 were the "Aardvarks." The other F-14 squadron, VF-213, were the "Black Lions." Both squadrons flew Phantoms, F-4B's, during Vietnam. These two fighter squadrons were part of CVW-11. One of the things that enabled the Hawk to earn the best overall combat record in the Vietnam War was that CVW-11 was always deployed on the Hawk. This was not true with the other Carriers. CVW-14 was the air wing aboard Constellation CVA-64 except for one cruise, when CVW 14 deployed on Ranger, CV-61. The complete marriage of the air wing and the ship eliminated some of the difficulties that squadrons occasionally experienced on carriers when they did not have shops, spaces and living quarters that were always "theirs." Glad that you took such great pictures during your cruise, and that you are so generous in showing them.

Banker proposes bringing USS Kitty Hawk to Wilmington.

The USS Kitty Hawk is a long way right now from the state that gave it its name, but a Wilmington banker wants to give it a home here after it's retired.

Rick Willetts, who last month proposed anchoring the Kitty Hawk in Wilmington, said this week that it would probably be four to six years before the warship, named for town of Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks, could be brought here.
