| In this digital photograph image you see Max and Fernando just after
we landed at Barneo Base which is only about sixty miles from the North Pole. By the time we landed, another expedition member, Bill, was real sick. We had to put him on a sled and pull him to the tents where he slept there until we were ready to board the helicopter for the last jaunt to the actual Geographical North Pole only sixty miles away. |

that the squadron members went through at Bluethenthal Field in Wilmington
North Carolina just prior to their transfer to the island of Ie Shima located
just north west of Okinawa.
