The Black Sea Shipyard is the only manufacturer of Russian Aircraft Carriers. The Admiral Kuznetsov was launched in 1985 and became fully operational in 1995, ten years later. The name of this aircraft carrier has changed a number of times during it's construction and operation. Carriers ever built and used. it served the Soviets Also know as Orel Class, the Kuznetsov was launched in the Black Sea in 1985. It is the only aircraft carrier in the Russian Navy. The "Kuznetsov" supports subs and surface ships in the Russian Fleet. The unusual design of this carrier includes a bow ski-jump take-off deck angled at 12 degrees. The ship is conventionally powered and has eight boilers and four steam turbines, each producing 50,000hp, driving four shafts with fixed-pitch propellers. The maximum speed is 29 kts, and the range at maximum speed is 3,800 miles. The ship provides a maximum range of 8,500 miles at a speed of 18 kts. The flight deck is equipped with arrester wires. Two starboard lifts carry the aircraft from the hangar to the flight deck. The ship has the capacity to support 16 Yakovlev Yak-41M (Freestyle) and 12 Sukhoi Su-27K (Flanker) fixed wing aircraft and a range of helicopters including four Kamov Ka-27-LD (Helix), 18 Kamov Ka-27 PLO, and two Ka-27-S. The Admiral Kuznetsov has a Granit anti-ship missile system equipped with 12 surface to surface missile launchers. The air defense gun and missile system includes the Klinok air defence missile system with 24 vertical launchers and 192 anti-air missiles. The system defends the ship against anti-ship missiles, aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and surface ships. This ship is equipped with an Udav-1 integrated anti-submarine system with 60 anti-submarine rockets. The "Kuznetsov" supports subs and surface ships in the Russian Fleet.
