Bell H-13 and Bell 47 Helicopters Here OH-13S Sioux: One of the first helicopters developed, the Bell H-13H Sioux gained its fame in the Korean war. This version was used for reconnaissance in Vietnam and carried 2 M61 machine guns mounted on each side of the fuselage. During the Korean War, the Bell H-13 "Sioux" evacuated more than 80% of wounded U.S. soldiers. The U.S. Army also developed a variant of the H-13 that, fitted with machine guns and rockets, could initiate a dangerous surprise attack from the air. Delivered to the U.S. Army in 1948, the Bell H-13 Sioux light helicopter is easily recognized by its full bubble canopy, exposed welded-tube tail boom, saddle fuel tanks and skid landing gear. A replica of an OH-13S - a variant of the H-13 outfitted with a turbocharged 260 hp TVO-435-25 engine - used for reconnaissance during the Vietnam War. AH-1 Bell 47 OH-13 Bell H-13, these are some of the designations for this helicopter. |

More Bell H1 Huey Helicopters Here From the Webmaster: The first six times that I flew in one of these helicopters, when we got to 2700 feet, they said, "We don't like you anymore, GET OUT." Just joking a bit there, but since my last name starts with a 'D' I was the first on the jump manifest, so I was the first to jump. It was different from jumping out of an airplane and my Navy jump training, by Gunnery Sergeant Blanchard, came in handy since my suspension lines were all twisted and I thought that I might have to pull the reserve chute. But to untwist the suspension lines, all I had to do was to move my legs like I was peddling a bicycle and all was well. It made it an interesting jump. |

Webmasters Note: In the Late 70s I used to work on the CHP Helicopter in Sacramento. It was the oldest H-500 still flying. As an avionics technician, I worked on all kinds of airplanes at Patterson Aircraft Company and I also worked on all of the odd aircraft, plus I worked on the A-7A, A-7B and A-7E Jet Fighters. What surprised me about this helicopter is that it had more radios than any aircraft I have ever seen. It had the standard ai rcraft avionics, plus radios from the Department of Fish and Game, Sheriffs radios, Police radios, Forest Service Radios and even a CB Radio. The Helicopter had two custom made audio panels that only existed in this aircraft only. Overall, it was a real challenge to work on, much more than I initially thought. C. Jeff Dyrek |

The Kamov Ka-29 Helicopter (NATO code bearing the designation Helix-B) is a modified version of the development board Kamov helicopter Ka-27. It is the naval transport machine as with the possibility of supporting the fire carried landing marines. The helicopter was primarily for the fitting of the large amphibious assault ships, which transported the first wave of landing ashore. This helicopter was part of the equipment of the armed forces of Russia and Ukraine, it was used in combat during the Chechen conflict. | |
