On the Youth of America
Youth
Innovative Business Environment Training
Quad Cities Air Show
This youth group takes a field trip to the Quad Cities Air Show at the
Davenport, Iowa, airport 7-14- 2000. Before the air show we learned
about some of the airplanes that we would see at the airshow by watching
a movie about the F16 falcon
called "Iron Eagle." In addition to
watching the movie we talked about different jets and how aircraft components
worked. The feature performer at this airshow was the
USAF
Thunderbirds flying their
F-16 Falcons. The kids of this youth program
learned a whole lot about jet airplanes and even more about technology
in general and that's Y-I-BET on the Youth of America! |

The procedure
for this field trip was as follows. First the Y-I-BET kids watched a movie about airplanes. Watching an airplane movie is not only entertaining, it is educational and stimulates the mind to think about airplanes and technology long after the kids have watched the videos. Second the Y-I-BET Kids went to the Quad Cities Air Show. If you have never gone to an Air Show, You Need to Go. It's Fantastic. At the Quad Cities Airshow the Y-I-Bet kids get to see the exact same kind of airplanes that they have watched in the videos that they saw the night before. The kids get to walk up to and touch many of these same kinds of planes and also talk to the pilots. The kids have the chance to climb on Army tanks and see all different types of technology that are used by both the military and the civilians. There are all kinds of rides. Flight simulator rides, slides, the titanic and just about everything. But that's just the beginning. When the action starts, the action really starts. Jet fighters kick in their afterburners and do near mach one flybys then shoot straight up into the air and disappear out of sight. Big jetliners pass by at over four hundred miles an hour right past your face. Little Pitts aerobatic airplanes do impossible maneuvers that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Then there's the Warbirds. Fighter airplanes from World War II and experimental airplanes and helicopters and pyrotechnic displays and skydivers and on and on. Do you get my point. Going to the Quad Cities Air Show, just like any airshow is one of the most fantastic things that any kid or adult can ever do. On other trips the Y-I-BET kids have also built airplane models of the types of planes that saw in the movie and will see in the next days airshow. The succession of these events going one day after another, each designed with the purpose of educating the kids, becomes an incredibly educational and memorable time in their lives developing the dreams that create a positive and productive future for the kids. This is why we call it Y-I-BET on the Youth of America. Y-I-BET comes from the name, "Youth Innovative Business Environment Training," a name that my friend Bob Muse and I came up with back in the mid 1980's. The airshow mentioned above was on 7/14/2000 On this series of Y-I-BET programs I worked with Lorri Timbs, her kids and the neighbor kids. Lorri was the best person that you would ever want to work with on these expeditions into taking a bunch of kids to an airshow and I will never forget her efforts. Today January 18th 2008 Lorri sent me this email. CALMNESS IN
OUR LIVES Yes, we need to finish what we start, that means that
there's a beginning and an end. But as far as making our country a better
place, making the TV a better place for our kids to learn, making sure that our
kids are properly taught to handle their future and lead our country, there is
no end, unless there is an end to mankind. Look at the following links to see great pictures of our event. |
