This youth group takes a field trip to the Quad Cities Air Show at the Davenport, Iowa, airport 7-14- 2000.  The kids watched two movies about airplanes the night before this airshow and now they are actually there looking at and touching the airplanes for real.  You can't beat the feeling of participating in an airshow event and these kids, all wearing Yellow Airplane tee shirts, came as a group which helps their confidence and helps them share in the airshows excitement.  This page shows the A-10 warthog.  Really called the A10 thunderbolt II, because of its stubby, bumpy appearance, it was nicknamed the warthog.

The Quad Cities Air Show is great!   They have some real nice static displays, the parking is of easy access to the flight line, there is plenty of free drinking water,  restrooms are easy to get too and the show is always great. 

I have spoken to the owners, Ken and Margie, several times on the telephone and they were very nice people even under heavy pressure and believe me, setting up an airshow is heavy pressure.

The A-10 Thunderbolt II commonly called the "Warthog"  is one of the enemy's leading threat against armored vehicles. 

The a10 is designed as an anti tank aircraft equipped with a 30 mm Gatling gun which fires in excess of 3500 rounds per minute. 
The A10 is manufactured by Fairchild Republic and is considered to be a light attack bomber. 
It weighs 24,960 lbs empty and has a max weight of 50,000 lbs.
The A-10 is 53' 4" long and has a wing span of 57' 6" which makes it  very large for a single pilot, fighter type aircraft. 
It is powered by two General Electric TF-34 producing 9065 lbs of thrust with a total combined thrust of 18,130 lbs.  The warthog has a maximum speed of 518 mph and a cruise speed of 345 mph.
