North Pole Travel and Global Warming, What it Means to You

( )  ( Model Airplanes )    ( Motorcycle Tours of Southern Europe )

This is a Mil Mi-8 helicopter in front of the Famous Khatanga hotel.  It appears that the helicopter will never fly again and is being used as a display only.

The word Khatanga is also spelled Katanga and most commonly spelled Khatanga.   On some maps at the university library I've seen it spelled even differently but I cannot recall their method of spelling.   The word means "Many waters,"  or "Much Waters" or something of that order because of all of the lakes, rivers and streams in the area.    The trees in the foreground are reportedly only able to grow one inch per year due to the Khatanga, extreme, climate.   Other parts of the North Pole Exhibit go into this much more in depth.
