These aerial pictures were taken from an Mikoyan Mi-8 Helicopter while flying from Camp Barneo to the geographical North Pole by the CEO of Global Expedition Adventures, Curtis Lieber. These huge leads open up and run for many miles, many times more than 100. They will eventually freeze over in about eight hours and can be crossed in about ten hours, according to the expert guides that I've talked to. Take a close look at this lead. It is already in the process of freezing over as seen by the light gray areas. |
