Tennessee is the home of Elvis Presley. You can see a couple of Elvis' airplanes at Graceland. Graceland it the home that Elvis built. When I was stationed at Naval Air station Station Memphis in naval tech school, in 1972-74, I had a chance to visit Graceland. There was no one there except the guard, which I understand to be the grandfather of Elvis, and the gates were open. We were allowed to walk anywhere around the front of Elvis' property. It was great, there was no crowd there, then, there is a massive crowd there now. There are a couple of airplanes there that Elvis owned. I would like to have seen how they got them to the property across from Graceland. You can tour these airplanes and the tour is great. See it for yourself. C. The Memphis
Belle is currently disassembled, and stored at the Millington
airport (formerly NAS Memphis, now NSA Millington). Unfortunately,
there is infighting amongst two competing groups for control of the
aircraft, and rumors are that the Air Force is considering taking it
back. Although I haven't looked closely at the airplane, I have been told
that it is in better condition than several of the
flying B-17s.
Note, the Memphis Belle is now located at the National Aviation Museum in Ohio. |
