Tennessee is the home of Elvis Presley.

You can see a couple of Elvis' airplanes at Graceland.  Graceland it the home that Elvis built.  When I was stationed at Naval Air station Station Memphis in naval tech school, in 1972-74, I had a chance to visit Graceland.  There was no one there except the guard, which I understand to be the grandfather of Elvis, and the gates were open.  We were allowed to walk anywhere around the front of Elvis' property.  It was great, there was no crowd there, then, there is a massive crowd there now.  There are a couple of airplanes there that Elvis owned.   I would like to have seen how they got them to the property across from Graceland.  You can tour these airplanes and the tour is great.  See it for yourself.   C. 12-19-2000 A letter from one of our viewers.
1. You had a question regarding how they got the airplanes to  Graceland. Here's how: The Jetstar (N777EP) was simply towed down Winchester   Road from the airport to Elvis Presley Blvd, about 2 1/2 miles, then   turned left for the three block trip to where it now sits. The Convair 880   (N880EP) Lisa Marie, was ferried gear down from where it had been left   derelict in Florida to the Memphis Airport. The wings were cut off with   power saws just outboard of the engines, and the airplane towed like   the Jetstar. The wings were then reattached. Needless to say, it can   never fly again. I worked on this aircraft for three years, until Elvis   died. I also worked on it when it was flown by Delta Air Lines.

I noticed your question on your website about the aircraft stored at the Graceland complex in Memphis----you wondered how they got the airplanes to this site.
The Lisa Marie's tail was removed and the aircraft was towed from the Memphis airport down Winchester Rd. to Elvis Presley Blvd. Once the aircraft was parked, the tail was re-attached. I watched the Convair 880 being towed down Winchester in 1984. It was an unusual sight!  I assume the Jetstar was moved in the same manner.

2. The Memphis Belle is currently disassembled, and stored at the   Millington airport (formerly NAS Memphis, now NSA Millington).   Unfortunately, there is infighting amongst two competing groups for control of the   aircraft, and rumors are that the Air Force is considering taking it   back. Although I haven't looked closely at the airplane, I have been told   that it is in better condition than several of the flying B-17s.   Note, the Memphis Belle is now located at the National Aviation Museum in Ohio.

Jeff,
In Tennessee, you can delete the listing for the Memphis Belle. The B-17 known as the Memphis Belle is now at the National Museum of the USAF undergoing 10 years of restoration. Pat Carry.
