stationed aboard the USS Kitty Hawk
To continue...
USS Forrestal (CVA-59) arrived in Mayport, Florida, on 14 September 1967. We in the air wing departed. Busses took the RVAH-11 crew to NAS Sanford, Florida, and a one-week stand down was given. Upon returning, we learned that we would have to quickly obtain replacement tools, aircraft, etc. in order to head for San Diego to board USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63) as a replacement for RVAH-13 who usually deployed with Carrier Air Wing Eleven (CVW-11) aboard Kitty Hawk. So, in early October 1967, RVAH-11 was back in operation aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63) headed for Pearl Harbor, Yokosuka, Subic Bay, and, again, Tonkin Gulf off North Vietnam. We began our first Tonkin Gulf line period aboard Kitty Hawk on 23 December 1967. Brad |
