Aircraft:
RA-5C Vigilante.
This is the test bench for the Serial Frame Cameras used on the RA-5C Vigilante.
If you'll recall, there was (is?) a structure hanging from the flight deck just forward of the starboard aft elevator. It had a porch at the aft end of it that allowed for the movement of heavy gear to/from the flight deck and hangar deck via the elevator. The elevator would be brought to a stop at the porch level. The equipment was typically in a yellow gear dolly that could be put in place at the porch. Then, a lift (on a track) could be used to move the equipment to the appropriate area within the shop. Typically, the PECM Gear, the Panoramic Camera Systems, and sometimes, a Serial Frame Camera Module would be brought in as an entire unit for repair/test. There were usually at least three Vigilantes parked on the "roof" directly above this area (just forward of the starboard aft elevator). This is 1 of 2 and, no, I don't remember why all the clutter was there. Brad |
