When your on a ship with around 6000 crew members you would get up every morning and stand in 0009160ALT="F-15C Eagle Jet Fighter Airplane 1/48 Plastic Model Kit" HSPACE=10 VSPACE=10 BORDER=2 height=142 width=250 align=RIGHT>line to use the rest room. Next you would stand in line to take a shower. After that you would stand in line to brush your teeth and shave. Then you would stand in line to eat.  I did brush my teeth, but I did it while standing in line to use the restroom, this way I would avoid one line and save 20 minutes. Because we were allowed, in those days, to grow a beard, I grew one. 

There's one thing that I learned in the Navy, and that was to be patient. Everywhere you went on the carrier, you had to stand in line. We had one hour to eat lunch. At least that's what the regulations said.  What they didn't tell you was that if you wanted to eat, and I thought that was a good idea, you had to stand in line for an hour or more. When we got back to work our Chief would say what happened to you guys. What could we say but we were standing in line to eat.

After standing in line for an hour you were really hungry. It's a real good thing because the food was great. I don't know how they did it. We had eggs to order, sunny side up, sunny side down, well done, etc. We also had steaks to order, I liked them medium rare.  It's hard to fathom how they could cook so much food and do such a good job. All I can say, is if you like to eat, join the Navy, but, you can expect to stand in line.

As a last thought, there is one place that you don't have to stand in line. That's when you need to work. There is no line there.  C. Jeff Dyrek, Webmaster.
