34th Fighter Squadron
About Walter Spink.
There was a message asking if anything was known about any of
the gentlemen on the 34th Fighter Squadron. I've seen these
pictures a hundred times. My Grandfather use to show them to me
and tell me a ton of stories. One in particular, is when his
"Bat out of Hell" crew (Sorry, not really familiar with all of
the terms) would earn cases of beer for having the cleanest
barracks. He had two yearbooks. This being one of them.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you he passed away exactly one
year ago, today. (1/18/05) I was just thinking about him and
decided to see if there was anything online about him. Much to
my surprise and enjoyment, I found your site. It's brought back
some memories of sitting next to him and listening to his jokes
and war stories. One of my favorite jokes, well, first of all,
he got married exactly one week after he returned from the war..
so the joke that he would always say was: "I came back from the
war only to start another one." They had a VERY happy life
together. If I could be anyone one in the world, it would be
him. He was very brave, a hard worker for his family, thrifty,
loving, always had time for people and always had such a good
sense of humor. He retired from Black and Decker in Baltimore, I
think in the late seventies, and was a full time grandfather of
three grand kids, my sister and brother.
His wife, my grandmother, Gladys Spink, resides now in
Shrewsbury, PA. Same town as her son and my mother. She's doing
very well.
Well, sorry for the long message. Thank you for having some
of these photos .
Sincerely,

This exhibit was from a
yearbook about a WW2 fighter squadron in the Western Pacific.
There is a possibility that this yearbook is the only copy still in existence.
If you know anyone from this squadron or have any information to add to
this exhibit,
Please send me e-mail at the bottom
of this page.
