What happened to the men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

This was a big decision that would not only change their lives, it would change the lives of everyone on the face of the planet until this very day.

  Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the  Declaration of Independence?


  Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured  before they died.   Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.  Two lost their sons  serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.  Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.  They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their  sacred honor.  What kind of men were they?  Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.  Eleven were merchants, nine were  farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated.  But  they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the  penalty would be death if they were captured.

 Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships  swept from the seas by the British Navy.  He sold his home and  properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.

Thomas McKean was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move  his family almost constantly.  He served in the Congress without pay,  and his family was kept in hiding.  His possessions were taken from  him,  and poverty was his reward.  Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer,  Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson Jr, noted that the British  General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters.  He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire.  The home was  destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed.  The enemy jailed  his wife, and she died within a few months.

 John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying.  Their  13  children fled for their lives.  His fields and his gristmill were laid  to waste.  For more than a year he lived in forests and caves,  returning  home to find his wife dead and his children vanished.  A few  weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart.

 Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates.  Such were the stories  and  sacrifices of the American Revolution.  These were not wild-eyed,  rabble-rousing ruffians.  They were soft-spoken men of means and  education.  They had security, but they valued liberty more.  Standing  tall, straight, and unwavering, they pledged:  "For the support of this  declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of divine  providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes,  and our sacred honor."

They gave you and me a free and independent America.  The history books  never told you a lot about what happened in the Revolutionary War.  We  didn't fight just the British.  We were British subjects at that time  and we fought our own government!  Some of us take these liberties so much for granted, but we shouldn't.  So, take a few minutes this year while enjoying your 4th of July  holiday  and silently thank these patriots.  It's not much to ask for the   they paid.  Remember: freedom is never free!
 

 It's time we get the word out that patriotism is  NOT a sin, and the Fourth of July has more to it than beer, picnics, and  baseball games.

When I joined the Navy I took an oath to fight all enemies both foreign and domestic, yes, domestic. 

We have enemies that plan forty and fifty years ahead to see the accomplishment of their goals.  This is a slow war, but a war never the less.  A slow war does not use guns, it uses psychological warfare: media forms like Television, Radio, Music, Magazines and Newspapers.   Carl Marx, the father of communism, the author of the book, the Communist Manifesto, said it real plainly.  He said that he can take a democratic country and make it pay for the rope to kill itself.  How do you do that?  You get the kids interested in sex, drugs and useless things.  You break up the families. 

Just look at TV today.  Watch a cartoon program called PJ's or the 70's show.  Both of these programs are totally filthy and PJ's is a complete series designed to get your kids indoctrinated in drugs and low class ideas.  Watch these, I'm not kidding.  This war is not limited to just these programs, almost every program on prime time is designed to do the same thing. 

This is the back door to our minds.  These enemies know that kids watch these programs again and again with total interest above that which is taught in any school.  There are also organizations that use legal and financial  muscle to drive anything good out of our schools and force filth on our programs hiding behind the idea of Freedom of Speech.

We all need to look back into history and see what these men had in their minds when they wrote the Declaration of Independence.  In those days General Washington would flog his men for using foul language.  Filth was not part of the idea of Freedom of Speech.  Freedom of Speech was designed to allow a person or group to speak against the government when they didn't agree with the governments policies. 

Now having a picture of Jesus in a bottle of urine is freedom of speech.  But just having a picture of Jesus is considered separation of church and state.

Now having a sweat shirt with Satan on it is freedom of speech.  But having a shirt with the words Jesus or God on are not allowed in school and you and your school will be sued.

Now you have the right to say anything to anyone, anytime, but you better not say God or Jesus or you are un-cool and you will be sued.

Do you think you have more freedom today or more problems?  Are our kids better off or are they killing each other in the schools?   Are you safer walking down the street?  Are your kids on drugs?  Is your daughter pregnant at fourteen?  Are our families still together?   Do you know who your dad is?

Watch those programs listed above, then watch the news, then look outside and listen what the kids are talking about, then look at those programs again. 

 

What can we do to reverse the process?  Write letters to the TV stations, Radio Stations and be sure to write to the advertisers who advertise on those programs and tell them that you will stop buying their products if they don't stop advertising on these programs or any programs like them.

 Hello, 
  I believe that we have had conversations before.  I am a Skybolt builder and have enjoyed you site many times.   I read your letter regarding our veterans and modern day television.  I would have to say that I agree with you.  Our family has essentially quit watching mainstream TV.  We have a satellite system and watch a lot of Discovery Channel and the likes.  We're better off for it. 

Over the last few years, I have spent quite a bit of time with the youth in our neighborhood and have discovered one fact:  "Kids are not born bad, they are created by their environment"  This would include, home life, school life, and the neighborhood that they live in, and for them  to be good does not always have to be accompanied by God.  I have worked with kids from all backgrounds and have found that many in  trouble just need someone to actually care about them and listen. I have always said that if you want to see the future, spend time with a  child  It is in this that I became appalled at the attacks on the Boy Scouts of America and other organizations like it.  Granted some of these institutions need to be monitored in order that the "process" is not staggered by "progress".  In other words, the mission is the kids and not the money.  It's hard to convince people of that and money is a necessary evil in these organizations. 

The old adage, "The idle  hands do the devils work", certainly plays out with kids.  If you keep them involved and interested in the world outside of their environment  their minds won't have time to develop plans to acquire smoke bombs for the boys room.  I'm not knocking the need for religion in children's  lives as it can help to make the effects of the good work last and helps kids, especially teenagers, to maintain focus.
