 One day after coming home on leave, Deane saw one of his friends, Melvin Faulkner, flying upside down in a Waco.  This excited him very much and upon his return to Kansas, Deane started taking flying lessons.  After his discharge, he and three of his friends bought a Tri-Pacer in which Deane got his commercial rating.
