Hello Mr. Dyrek, I wanted to thank you for the website, particularly concerning the plane “Droopy Drawers”. Family legend says that the nose art was based on an incident with my grandmother, who was stationed in Okinawa with her husband (he was in the Air Force). I have always wanted to see the picture, but have never seen anything about this plane until now, and I’ve been looking for years. I have always been fascinated by anything about her military history and her travels (she was a WAAC herself until she got married), and was so excited to see a photo from one our best family stories! Also, thanks to you personally for fighting to defend our freedom all those years ago. Too many people of my generation don’t appreciate the sacrifices that were made by “the greatest generation”, and the difference it made in how we are living today. The magnitude of what you accomplished has been diminished in public memory, but some of us never forget how different things could have been. Please know that you are appreciated and even admired. Simple thanks would never be enough, but it’s all I have. Sincerely, Lauranna “Roni” Leland Granddaughter of “Droopy Drawers” 3 Aug 2007 |
